Trivia

    Album

  • Hrishikesh Mukherjee dedicated this film "To the memory of K.L. Saigal and Mukesh". The film, which explored the relationship of an aspiring singer with his father, was released a few months after Mukesh's death in August 1976.
  • The film's background score featured Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan's rendition of "Rain Andheri Darr Laage" in the scene in which Amitabh Bachchan's character reunites with his family in Banaras.
  • According to Hrishikesh Mukherjee, the Emergency imposed by Indira Gandhi resulted in a period between 1975 and 1978 when he wasn't at his creative best and couldn't get himself to make films with light subjects. This film was one of the few films he made in this period with particularly serious themes.[MR43]
