Trivia

    Album

  • This remains one of the most successful Hindi film soundtrack albums of all time. It transformed the careers of the musical artists involved in its making, all of whom had worked for years in Hindi films without much success. Music directors Nadeem - Shravan, singers Kumar Sanu and Anuradha Paudwal, and lyricist Sameer won Filmfare Awards for this film - one of the rare instances of a single film winning all music-related Filmfare Awards. The success of the film's music also established T-Series as the leading film music label and significantly expanded India's music business.
  • This was the debut Hindi film of its lead actors Rahul Roy and Anu Agarwal. They worked together in only one other film after this, "Gajab Tamaasa" (1992), but could not replicate the success of this film.[1]
  • Rani Malik made her debut as a lyricist in this film.
  • Vishesh Films and T-Series followed up this film with a sequel in 2013. The sequel's plot was independent of this film and was inspired by the film "A Star Is Born" (1976). "A Star Is Born" (1976) itself was one among a series of films with the same title and premise. The first film of this series of films was released in 1937 and was followed by adaptations in 1941, 1954, 1976 and 2018.[2]
  • Rahul Roy's lines in this film were dubbed by actor Aditya Pancholi.
  • Gulshan Kumar had initially planned to release the songs of this film as a non-film album. It was Mahesh Bhatt who convinced Kumar to let him use the songs in this film and produce it jointly with Vishesh Films.[3]
  • Mahesh Bhatt revealed in 2012 that this film was, in fact, autobiographical and was the story of his first love.[4]

    Song

  • Jaan-E-Jigar Jaaneman - I - The tune of the mukhda of this song was plagiarised from the Pakistani film song "Bas Ek Tere Siva" ("Doorian", 1984) composed by Robin Ghosh. The Hindi film song "Duniya Mein Tere Siva" ("Aandhiyan", 1990) also plagiarised the same song. "Bas Ek Tere Siva" itself may have been inspired by the Hindi film song "Main Chali Main Chali" ("Professor", 1962).[5][6][7]
  • Dheere Dheere Se Meri Zindagi Mein Aana - The tune of this song was plagiarised from the song "Come Into My Life" (1987) by singer-songwriter Joyce Sims.[8]
  • Dheere Dheere Se Meri Zindagi Mein Aana - Rap artist Yo Yo Honey Singh released a cover version of this song in 2015.[9]
  • Mera Dil Tere Liye Dhadakta Hai - A portion of this song may have been inspired by the hit track "You're the Voice" (1986) by the Australian artist John Farnham.[10]
  • Tu Meri Zindagi Hai - This song was an adaptation of a Pakistani film song with the same mukhda from the film "Mohabbat Mar Nahin Sakti" (1977). The original song was composed by Nashad. While lyricist Sameer used the same mukhda as Tasleem Fazli's original, the antara had different lyrics. The original song had two solo versions sung by Mehdi Hassan and Noor Jehan.
