Trivia

    Album

  • This film was based on K.A. Abbas's English short story "The Thirteenth Victim" which in turn was inspired by the real-life events surrounding what was commonly known as the Nanavati case. This was a 1959 court case in which Naval Commander K.M. Nanavati was tried for the murder of his wife's lover, Prem Ahuja. The Hindi films "Yeh Rastey Hain Pyar Ke" (1963) and "Rustom" (2016) were also inspired by the same case.[1][2]
  • This was a songless film. Its background score was composed by Vasant Desai. However, refrains of the song "Sun Mere Bandhu Re" ("Sujata", 1959) composed by S.D. Burman featured prominently in the film. One scene had the original version of "Sun Mere Bandhu Re" sung by S.D. Burman, while other scenes had a version recorded in an unknown female singer's voice.[3]
  • This was the first Hindi film of the Bengali film actress Lily Chakraborty.
  • The climax of this film used a background score cue based on the tune of the song "Koi Hota Jisko Apna" ("Mere Apne", 1971) composed by Salil Chowdhury. However, Salil Chowdhury was not credited for it. Like this film, "Mere Apne" (1971) was directed by Gulzar and produced by Raj and Romu Sippy. Gulzar had used a musical piece with the same tune by Salil Chowdhury in the climax of "Mere Apne" (1971) as well.[4]
