Trivia

    Album

  • This Amitabh Bachchan film got its title from a poem written by his father Harivanshrai Bachchan. The film featured Alok Nath and Master Manjunath's characters reciting the poem. Harivanshrai Bachchan was acknowledged before the film's opening credits.
  • This was the first of the three films directed by Mukul S. Anand and starring Amitabh Bachchan. All three films featured Danny Denzongpa and had Laxmikant - Pyarelal's music and Anand Bakshi's lyrics. The other films in this series were - "Hum" (1991) and "Khuda Gawah" (1992).[1][2]
  • Tinu Anand was supposed to play Amitabh Bachchan's uncle in this film. Since Anand was 12 years younger than Bachchan, the film's crew was not sure how he would be able to pull the role off. Anand then came up with the idea of giving himself a balding look by shaving his head. His appearance shocked Amitabh Bachchan when he came to the set for the first time with this new look.[3]
  • This film was remade in 2011 with a few changes in the script. The 2011 film featured Hrithik Roshan and Sanjay Dutt in roles that were played by Amitabh Bachchan and Danny Denzongpa in the original. The roles played by Mithun Chakraborty and Madhavi were removed from the remake. The failure of the original film had broken producer Yash Johar's heart and it was because of this that his son Karan Johar wanted to remake it.[4][5]
  • Amitabh Bachchan received his first National Film Award for Best Actor for this film.
  • Amitabh Bachchan modulated his voice to sound very different in this film than his usual self. His dialogue delivery in this film was much talked about, imitated and parodied.
  • The song "Yeke Yeke" by Mory Kante was used as the background score in the scene in this film in which Amitabh Bachchan lands in Mauritius to meet Danny. "Yeke Yeke" partly inspired the song "Jumma Chumma De De" in director Mukul Anand's next film with Amitabh Bachchan, "Hum" (1991).[6][7]
  • The character of Krishnan Iyer played by Mithun Chakraborty in this film was inspired by a Malayali with whom Mithun had shared rooms during his days as a struggling actor in Bombay.[8]

    Song

  • Ali Baba Mil Gaya - This song was Aadesh Shrivastava's Hindi film debut as a singer. He started his career as a music director later with the film "Khatra" (1991).[9]
