Jaya Bachchan lent her voice to the film as its narrator and helped promote it. She did this as a favour to the film's producer Pawan Tiwari. Bachchan was connected to him through his father Brij Bhushan Tiwari, who was her colleague in the Samajwadi Party and a fellow Rajya Sabha MP. In 2007, Brij Bhushan Tiwari was among Jaya Bachchan's colleagues who supported her when she was allegedly harassed by the Income Tax department over the expenses for her son's wedding. Akhilesh Yadav, the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister at the time, also threw in his support by launching the film's trailer. The launch was attended by Amitabh Bachchan and Anurag Kashyap among others. The film was dedicated to the memory of Brij Bhushan Tiwari who passed away in 2012.
The film was certified in March 2016 and premiered at the Indian International Film Festival of Queensland, Australia in November 2016. The film's music was released in January 2017 and it was released in theatres in India in February 2017.
Simala Prasad, an IPS officer from Indore, debuted as an actor in the film.
