• This was Avinash Das's directorial debut. Das left his 20-year career in journalism to become a filmmaker.[1]
• Avinash Das was inspired to write the film's script after he saw a YouTube video of the folk singer Tarabano Faizabadi singing a Bhojpuri song. The video mixed visuals of Faizabadi singing in the studio with a raunchy music video. The film's plot was based on a real-life incident. In 2011, a Bhojpuri folk singer Devi accused the Vice-Chancellor of the Jai Prakash Narayan University, Chhapra, D.P. Sinha, of molesting her during her performance.[2][3]
• Avinash Das had started work on the film in 2012. The film's lead role was supposed to be played by Richa Chadda then. However, the actress got noticed for her work in "Gangs Of Wasseypur" (2012) and started getting meatier roles. According to Das, she then developed cold feet at the prospect of working with a first-time director and backed out of the film. In the absence of its lead actor, the film got stalled for some time. It was revived after Swara Bhaskar came on board.[4][5]
• Even before the film was certified, the makers of the film registered a police complaint stating that some scenes from the film had been leaked online. According to producer Sandiip Kapur, these scenes were of the 11 cuts CBFC had asked for in the film. He said that cuts like these were "killing the creativity". CBFC chief Pahlaj Nihalani responded by saying that there was no question of asking for cuts when the film was yet to be certified. He accused the filmmakers of using CBFC to garner publicity for their film.[6][7]
