This film was based on the short story "The Railway Aunty" by Mohan Sikka. This short story was published as part of the "Delhi Noir" collection edited by Hirsh Sawhney.[1]
This was Ajay Bahl's directorial debut. It was also the debut film of music director Alokananda Dasgupta and her sister Rajeshwari Dasgupta who wrote the lyrics. The film's male lead Shadab Kamal also debuted in the film.
Filmmaker Ajay Bahl had initially chosen Richa Chadda for the film's lead role after considering her and Shilpa Shukla. However, when Chadda was offered Anurag Kashyap's "Gangs Of Wasseypur" (2012), Bahl asked her to go with it and replaced her with Shilpa Shukla.[2][3]
The film "M.A. Pass" (2016) was promoted as a spiritual successor to this film. The films' plots were unrelated and they did not have any common cast members. While the music album and trailer of "M.A. Pass" (2016) were released, it appears that the film itself remains unreleased.[4]
