Trivia

    Album

  • The film started with a story idea by the Bengali filmmaker Pavel Bhattacharjee. The original premise was about a Banaras man who realises that his premature baldness is due to the polluted waters of Ganga. The man finds out about a company dumping waste in the river and starts a campaign against it. However, the film's direction changed when Amar Kaushik came on board as a creative producer. Kaushik loved the concept and agreed to direct the film. The script evolved under his guidance and became a film about vanity.[1]
  • The film faced several charges of plagiarism. In March 2019, Kamal Kant Chandra alleged that he had pitched an idea for a film, titled "Wig", about a man dealing with premature baldness to Ayushmann Khurrana. They had not proceeded further but when he heard about this film, Kamal Kant felt that Khurrana had taken his idea for it. He sent notices to the filmmakers and to Khurrana and followed up with a legal complaint when he didn't hear from them. In September 2019, filmmaker Praveen Mochale filed a case of copyright infringement against the makers of the film. He claimed that he had written a similar story in 2005 and registered it with the Film Writers' Association in 2007. A third plagiarism charge surfaced in October 2019, when the makers of the film "Ujda Chaman" (2019) expressed concerns about the similarities between the two films. The issue blew up when the makers of this film shifted its release from November 22 to November 7, a day before the planned release of "Ujda Chaman" (2019). In retaliation, Abhishek Pathak, the director of "Ujda Chaman" (2019), filed a case in the Supreme Court and sought to stall its release. It appears that all the legal cases were either withdrawn or settled out of court. This film was released on November 7 as planned while "Ujda Chaman" (2019) shifted its release date to November 1.[2][3][4][5][6][7][8][9]
  • The film was criticised for its choice of Bhumi Pednekar for the film's lead role. Pednekar played a character of dark complexion and used "brownface" makeup to change her skin tone for the film. Critics opined that a naturally dark actress should have been chosen instead.[10][11][12]
  • This was Ayushmann Khurrana's third film with Bhumi Pednekar after "Dum Laga Ke Haisha" (2015) and "Shubh Mangal Saavdhan" (2017), and his second film with Yami Gautam after "Vicky Donor" (2012). "Vicky Donor" (2012) was both Khurrana and Yami Gautam's debut film and "Dum Laga Ke Haisha" (2015) was Bhumi Pednekar's debut.[13][14][15]
  • This was a rare film featuring brothers Ayushmann and Aparshakti Khurrana. However, Aparshakti only had a cameo role in it and the brothers did not appear together on the screen.

    Song

  • Don't Be Shy Again - The song was a recreated version of "Don't Be Shy" (2004) by the British pop band Rouge. Dr. Zeus, the producer of the 2004 song, accused the makers of this film of plagiarism and threatened to take them to court over it. In response, Maddock Films issued a statement clarifying that they had procured the song's remake rights from Karman Entertainment, its UK-based copyright holder. The same song was recreated by Raghav Sachar for the film "Alone" (2015).[16][17][18]
  • Don't Be Shy Again - Badshah made a cameo appearance in the film for this song. It was used in the end credits.
  • Don't Be Shy Again - The song was filmed against the backdrop of a theatre playing the film "Stree" (2018), a hit film by the makers of this film - director Amar Kaushik and producer Dinesh Vijan.[19]
  • Naah Goriye - This was a recreated version of a hit, non-film Punjabi song released by B Praak and Jaani in 2017. The original song was sung by Harrdy Sandhu and Nora Fatehi.[20]
  • Naah Goriye - The song wasn't used in the film. A promotional video featuring Ayushmann Khurrana and Sonam Bajwa was released for it. The video also featured singer Harrdy Sandhu.
  • Ab Bhale Tu Sataa Zindagi - Bhargav Purohit debuted as a lyricist in this song.
