Trivia

    Album

  • This film was a remake of the Bengali film "Galpa Holeo Satyi" (1966) directed by Tapan Sinha. It was also remade in Tamil as "Samayalkaran" (1974) and in the Kannada films "Sakalakala Vallabha" (1991) and "No 73, Shanthi Nivasa" (2007). Part of the Hindi film "Hero No. 1" (1997) was also adapted from this film. The film "Khoobsurat" (1999) also had a similar premise.[1][2]
  • This film featuring Jaya Bhaduri did not have written or printed opening credits. Instead, Amitabh Bachchan announced the crew members at the beginning of the film. Many years later, Jaya Bhaduri announced in a similar manner the cast and crew of a film Amitabh acted in - "Paa" (2009). While Jaya appeared on the screen for the opening credits, Amitabh Bachchan did not.[3]
  • Not considering Rajesh Khanna's cameo in "Guddi" (1971), this was the only film featuring him and Jaya Bhaduri.
  • Asrani played an assistant to a music director in the film. His job was to plagiarise tunes from Western songs. The music director whom he was assisting was cheekily named Rajnikant Nyarelal, an obvious reference to Laxmikant - Pyarelal.
  • Rajesh Khanna's character in the film quoted a line by Rabindranath Tagore, "It is so simple to be happy but it is so difficult to be simple". However, he attributed the quote to a poet he used to work for named Harindranath. This was a reference to Harindranath Chattopadhyay who not only played the role of a patriarch in the film but was also a poet in real life.

    Song

  • Bhor Aayi Gaya Aandhiyara - Yesteryear actress and singer Nirmala Devi made a brief comeback to playback singing with this song, before retiring again. Years later, she came out of retirement again to sing a song in a film featuring her son, actor Govinda, in the lead role - "Raiszaada" (1989).[4]
  • Bhor Aayi Gaya Aandhiyara - They were not credited for it, but some of the lines in this song were written by Gulzar and Harindranath Chattopadhyay. The film's crew used to refer to the song as a "community song" because of this.[5]
  • Mast Pawan Dole Re - This song was edited out of the film.[6]
  • Pahle Chori Phir Seena Zori - This was singer Kumari Faiyaz's debut Hindi film song.
