Trivia

    Album

  • This film was inspired by the Bengali film "Jighansa" (1951). Hemant Kumar, who produced this film, had composed the music for the 1951 film. "Jighansa" (1951) itself may have been inspired by the Sherlock Holmes mystery novel "The Hound of the Baskervilles" (1902) by Arthur Conan Doyle. Some also attribute the Bengali novel "Nishithini Bivishika" by Hemendra Kumar Roy as the basis for the film's plot.[1][2]
  • This was music director Hemant Kumar's first film as a producer. The title of his last film as a producer - "Bees Saal Pahele" (1972) - was inspired by the title of this film. This was also art director Biren Nag's first film as a director. He directed just one more Hindi film after this - "Kohraa" (1964) - another Hemant Kumar production. The 1964 film featured many of this film's cast and crew, including its lead pair Waheeda Rehman and Biswajeet.[3][4]
  • This was Biswajeet's debut film. He had been offered the lead role in "Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam" (1962) earlier but he didn't accept it since Guru Dutt had wanted him to sign a 5-year exclusive contract.[5][6]

    Song

  • Sapne Suhane Ladakpan Ke - Pandit Shivkumar Sharma played the santoor in this song.[7]
  • Kahin Deep Jale Kahin Dil - This was the first song Lata Mangeshkar recorded after a 3-month period of sickness which was suspected to be because of deliberate poisoning of her food.[MR7]
  • Kahin Deep Jale Kahin Dil - The film's climax featured an abbreviated version of this song sung by Hemant Kumar.
  • Beqarar Karke Humein Yun Na Jaiye - Enoch Daniels played the accordion in this song.[8]
