The film was based on the real-life story of Budhia Awooga Singh, a boy from Orissa who started running marathons when he was only 3 years old. Filmmaker Gemma Atwal had made a documentary titled "Marathon Boy" on the same subject in 2011.[1][2]
This was Soumendra Padhi's directorial debut. It was also the debut film of child artist Mayur Patole, who was picked after around 1200 aspiring actors were auditioned. The film won the National Film Award for Best Children's Film under its original title "Duronto".[3][4]
