Trivia

    Album

  • This was one of the four films directed by Manmohan Desai that were released in 1977. The other three films were "Dharam-Veer" (1977), "Parvarish" (1977) and "Amar Akbar Anthony" (1977). Delayed by the Emergency imposed by Indira Gandhi in 1975, these films came three years after Desai's last film "Roti" (1974). While all four films were hits, "Amar Akbar Anthony" (1977) became a cult classic and established Manmohan Desai as Bollywood's premier film director.[1][2][3][4]
  • Salim - Javed had pitched the idea of "Sholay" (1975) to Manmohan Desai but he had rejected it. They eventually ended up working with Desai for this film. It was their only film together.[5][MR34]
  • Salim - Javed, who had been advocates for Amitabh Bachchan since "Zanjeer" (1973), had introduced the actor to Manmohan Desai during one of the writing sessions for this film. Desai had been unimpressed was reportedly rude to Bachchan. The writers had told Desai that a day would come when he would have no choice but to work with Amitabh. Their prediction came true with the first film of Desai's M.K.D. Films banner - "Amar Akbar Anthony" (1977). So impressed was Desai with Amitabh during the making of the film, that he told the actor that he would feature him in every future film of his till he turned him down. True to his word, every film Manmohan Desai directed after "Amar Akbar Anthony" (1977) featured Amitabh Bachchan in a lead role.[6][7][MR34]
  • Randhir Kapoor featured in another film released in 1977 with the relationship between an uncle and a nephew as the theme - "Mama Bhanja" (1977).[8]

    Song

  • Bhoot Raja Baahar Aa Ja - The mukhda of this song was reused by Farhad Samji and Sandeep Shirodkar for a song in the Hindi film "Housefull 4" (2019).[9]
