Trivia

    Album

  • This was actor Kamal Haasan's first film as a director. Although, he had started and made his career in Tamil films, his first directorial venture in Tamil came later - "Hey Ram" (2000).[1]
  • This film was a remake of the Tamil film "Avvai Shanmughi" (1996) with Kamal Haasan reprising the role he had played in the Tamil film. The Tamil film itself was said to be adapted from the Hollywood comedy "Mrs. Doubtfire" (1993), starring Robin Williams. However, Kamal Haasan had denied this and asserted that he had written the film independently. There was also speculation that the film "Aunty No. 1" (1998) had the same plot as this film. Kamal had clarified that this was not the case.[2][3]
  • Kamal Haasan had launched this film with his friend, ad-filmmaker Shantanu Sheorey, as the director. However, shortly after the film's shooting began the two had an acrimonious fallout. Kamal fired Shantanu and decided to direct the film himself.[4]
  • Actor Johnny Walker made a comeback in films after almost a decade. This was his last Hindi film.
  • The end credits of this film had a few shots of the making of the film and its music. One of the shots showed a session involving Vishal Bhardwaj and Gulzar. Another shot showed Vishal Bhardwaj practising with the child singers of the title song's chorus, one of whom was Kamal Haasan's daughter, Shruti Haasan.
  • Kamal Haasan's daughter, Shruti Haasan, sang for Hindi films for the first time in this film. She was 11 years old at the time.
  • Actress Fatima Sana Shaikh debuted as a child artist in this film. She would go on to debut in a leading role in the film "Dangal" (2016).[5]
  • Kamal Haasan had an altercation with actress Ashwini Bhave during the film's shooting. She then left the film and was replaced by Ayesha Jhulka.

    Song

  • Ek Woh Din Bhi The - This was the debut Hindi film song of singer Rekha Bhardwaj, the wife of music director Vishal Bhardwaj.
