Trivia

    Album

  • This film was based on a Bengali novel of the same name written by Ashapurna Devi.
  • This was the first film produced under the Bimal Roy Productions banner after the death of Bimal Roy in 1965, and its last ever Hindi film. The film was produced by his wife, Manobina Roy. The banner's last film before this was "Benazir" (1964).[1]
  • Bimal Roy had launched this film in 1965 with the title "Sahara". He was the film's director, and the lead roles were being played by Dharmendra and Sharmila Tagore. The film was shelved when Roy fell ill on its sets and later passed away. The film was re-started in 1975 with Roy's one-time protege Hrishikesh Mukherjee at the helm and with Saira Banu in Sharmila Tagore's place. The film opened with a tribute to Roy after the opening credits - "In fond memory of a great filmmaker Bimal Roy".
