Trivia

    Album

  • The film was certified in December 2019. It was released along with its music in January 2020.
  • The film was based on the real-life story of Laxmi Agarwal who survived an acid attack in 2005 when she was 15 years old. In the years following the attack, Agarwal became well-regarded as a campaigner for the rights of acid attack survivors and for the prevention of acid attacks.
  • This was Deepika Padukone's first film as a producer. While promoting the film in Delhi, the actress visited the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) and participated in a protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act. Her visit to JNU generated controversy and resulted in calls to boycott this film. While some dismissed her gesture as a publicity stunt, others praised her for standing up for her convictions. Padukone was also criticised for another of her promotions in which she met a makeup artist on TikTok and challenged her to recreate her "look" for this film and a few others. Many on social media felt that the promotion was opportunistic and unfairly exploited the appearance of acid attack victims.[1][2][3][4]
  • Lawyer Aparna Bhat, who represented acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal in her legal battles, was unhappy that the film did not acknowledge her contributions to it. She filed a petition with the Patiala house of the Delhi High Court seeking the credit due to her. The court ordered the makers of the film to acknowledge her contribution. The makers of the film challenged the court's orders but eventually gave in and acknowledged her "inputs".[5][6]
