Trivia

    Album

  • Pooja Bhatt made her acting debut in this film. Her father, Mahesh Bhatt, directed the film and her step-mother, Soni Razdan, played her mother in it. Mahesh Bhatt dedicated the film to the memory of his sister Heena Suri (filmmaker Mohit Suri's mother). The film was also dedicated to Pooja Bhatt's mother and Mahesh Bhatt's first wife, Kiran. It featured Pooja Bhatt's cousin, Sakshi Bhatt, and her half-sister, Shaheen Bhatt.
  • This semi-autobiographical film by Mahesh Bhatt dealt with his struggles as an alcoholic. Ironically, Pooja Bhatt, who played the role of the alcoholic's daughter in this film, herself had to deal with alcoholism later in her life.[1]
  • This film was adapted for theatre in 2018. The play, with the same title as the film, was scripted by Mahesh Bhatt himself and directed by Dinesh Gautam.
  • Feeling good about his directorial debut, "Manzilein Aur Bhi Hain" (1974), Mahesh Bhatt had approached director Asit Sen to get his opinion about it. Asit Sen had been critical about the film and had told him that it lacked depth and substance. Years later, while presenting Mahesh Bhatt an award for the film "Zakhm" (1998), Asit Sen told him that he was his favourite director and "Daddy" (1991) his favourite film since it depicted that it was possible to overcome alcoholism - something Sen had failed at.[2][3][4]
  • This was one of the three films Pooja Bhatt did in 1991, all of which were directed by Mahesh Bhatt. The other two films were "Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahin" and "Sadak".[5][6]

    Song

  • Aaina Mujhse Meri Pehli Si Soorat Maangi - This song may have been inspired by the Pakistani film song "Mujhse Pahli Si Muhabbat Mere Mehboob Na Maang" ("Qaidi", 1962). The original song was composed by Rasheed Attre, sung by Noor Jehan and penned by Faiz Ahmed Faiz. It was this Faiz nazm, that had the line "Teri Aankhon Ke Siva Duniya Mein Rakha Kya Hai", which Majrooh Sultanpuri famously adapted for the Hindi film "Chirag" (1969).[7][8]
