Trivia

    Album

  • This film was in the making for a few years. Actor Uttam Kumar and singer Mohammed Rafi passed away in 1980 within days of each other while the film was in production. The hair stylist Hakim Kairanvi stepped in as Uttam Kumar's double to finish his remaining scenes after his death.[1]
  • This was the only Hindi film that featured the superstars of the Hindi and Bengali film industries, Amitabh Bachchan and Uttam Kumar, together.
  • This was the last Manmohan Desai film which featured a song sung by Mohammed Rafi. All subsequent films produced by M.K.D. Films during Manmohan Desai's lifetime featured a dedication to Rafi before the films' opening credits.
  • This was the last film produced by Manmohan Desai's brother, Subhash Desai. Manmohan Desai's first film as a director - "Janam Janam Ke Phere (Sati Anapurna)" (1957) - was produced by Subhash Desai.[2]
  • Shammi Kapoor's character in this film was named after his real name, Shamsher.

    Song

  • Gore Nahin Hum Kaale Sahi - Laxmikant had asked R.D. Burman to sing this song but ended up singing it himself when Burman refused.
  • Gore Nahin Hum Kaale Sahi - Amitabh Bachchan had a visible white bandage on his head when this song was scheduled to be shot. The bandage was to patch up an injury Amitabh had suffered while shooting the song "Mach Gaya Shor Saari Nagri Re" ("Khud-Daar", 1982) earlier that day. The actor had hidden the bandage by having the makeup artists paint it black and by pulling down the wig he was wearing in this song lower than normal.[3][4]
  • Khatoon Ki Khidmat Mein Salam Apun Ka - Amitabh Bachchan's appearance and mannerisms in this song were inspired by the character of the lungi-wearing, toothbrush-moustached Hyderabadi popularised by actor Mehmood. One of Mehmood's most popular representations of this character was in the song "Hum Kaale Hain Toh Kya Hua" ("Gumnaam", 1965).[5]
