Trivia

    Album

  • This film was adapted from the American romantic comedy "It Happened One Night" (1934) starring Clark Gable. A few other Hindi films were also inspired by the same film - "Nadan" (1951), "Chori Chori" (1956), "Nau Do Gyarah" (1957), "Solva Saal" (1958) and "Basant" (1960). Similar plots were used in other Indian films as well - "Chaowa Pawa" (1959) in Bengali, "Chandhrodhayam" (1966) and "Kadhal Rojave" (2000) in Tamil, and "Hudugaata" (2007) in Kannada.[1][2][3][4][5][6]
  • It appears that Babla Mehta, who sang a number of songs in the original audio release of this film, was replaced by other singers in subsequent releases. He was replaced by Kumar Sanu in "Adayein Bhi Hain Mohabbat Bhi Hai", "Tu Pyar Hai Kisi Aur Ka" and "Kaise Mizaaj Aap Ke Hain", and by Abhijeet in "Dil Tujhpe Aa Gaya".
  • This film came about when Mahesh Bhatt offered Aamir Khan a film whose script he did not like. He told Mahesh Bhatt that what he would be really interested in working in would be a remake of "Roman Holiday" (1953) with Sridevi. Six months later Mahesh Bhatt came back to him with a script based on "It Happened One Night" instead.[7]
  • This was one of the three films Pooja Bhatt did in 1991, all of which were directed by Mahesh Bhatt. The other films were "Daddy" and "Sadak".[8][9]
  • A scene in this film prominently featured in its background score the song "Hum Hain Raahi Pyar Ke" from another Hindi film adapted from "It Happened One Night" (1934) - "Nau Do Gyarah" (1957). Incidentally, this song, composed by S.D. Burman, written by Majrooh Sultanpuri and sung by Kishore Kumar, inspired the title of another film directed by Mahesh Bhatt and starring Aamir Khan, "Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke" (1993).[10][11]

    Song

  • O Mere Sapnon Ke Saudagar - This song was adapted from Cliff Richard's "Bachelor Boy" (1969).[12][13]
  • Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahin (Duet) - This was lyricist Faaiz Anwar's debut Hindi film song.
  • Galyat Sankali Sonyachi - This song appears to be based on a Goan folk song. This folk song was used once before in the Hindi film "Toofan Aur Bijlee" (1976).[14]
  • Galyat Sankali Sonyachi - This song sequence, set in a Goan fishing village, appears to be inspired by a similar song sequence in another "It Happened One Night" (1934) adaptation - "O Bhai Machhua Tere Jaale Ka Toota Re Taaga" ("Nadan", 1951).[15]
