The film was certified in November 2014, its music was released in January 2015 and it was released in theatres in March 2015. According to filmmaker K.C. Bokadia, the film's release was delayed after he was pressured by some politicians from Rajasthan. The film was based on the 2011 murder case of Bhanwari Devi, a nurse from a village near Jodhpur in Rajasthan. Two prominent Congress party politicians were implicated in this case of sexual exploitation and murder.
The film was in the news for its controversial content. Mallika Sherawat and K.C. Bokadia claimed that they had received threatening phone calls asking them to "stay away from this topic and from the film". The Patna High Court banned the film in Bihar after receiving a petition objecting to some scenes in the film. Another case was filed against Sherawat for an image in the film's posters that showed her draped in the Indian flag.
This was the last film featuring a song composed by Aadesh Shrivastava that was released while he was still alive. Shrivastava died of cancer in September 2015 at the age of 51.
