  • This was the first film in which Amitabh Bachchan and Rekha were paired together on screen. They had worked together previously in the film "Namak Haraam" (1973) in which Rekha was paired with Rajesh Khanna. In the years to come, the two actors were rumoured to be romantically involved, but these rumours were never confirmed.[1]
  • Amitabh Bachchan and Rekha's characters in this film were named Amit and Rekha Roy.[MR12]
  • This film was based on Nihar Ranjan Gupta's Bengali novel "Ratrir Yatri".
  • This film was remade in Telugu as "Maavari Manchitanam" starring N.T. Rama Rao and in Kannada as "Aaseya Bale" (1987) starring Vishnuvardhan.
  • This was the first film produced by the Navjeevan Films banner launched by brothers Tony and Tito Juneja. Tito was credited as this film's producer. Tony was credited as the producer of the second film produced by the banner, "Mr. Natwarlal" (1979).[2]
