This was the directorial debut of Tulsi and Shyam Ramsay who directed films together for most of their career. They were credited as R. Tulsi Shyam in this film.
This film was promoted as India's first horror film. Despite being made with a low budget and unknown actors, and getting an 'A' rating, the film was a hit. It was this film that helped create the Ramsay Films brand of Hindi horror films.
Producer F.U. Ramsay's previous film "Ek Nannhi Munni Ladki Thi" (1970) was a flop but gave the Ramsay family the idea to venture into the horror genre. F.U. Ramsay's sons Tulsi and Shyam discovered the market for horror films when they noticed that the opening scene of "Ek Nannhi Munni Ladki Thi" (1970) elicited the strongest response from the audience. Many filmgoers came to watch just the opening scene and left after it. Set up as a horror scene, it involved Prithviraj Kapoor's character robbing a museum with a monster suit on. Encouraged by this response, the sons convinced their father to make a full-fledged horror film. The result was this film.[1][2]
