Although tame by modern standards, this film created a buzz when it was released for its bold depiction of sex and intimacy. The film was a hit and was remade in Tamil as "Aval" (1972).
This film was promoted as "The first film completely and entirely made by young army of Film Institute of India graduates". The film's debutant director Firoze Chinoy, writer P.D. Shenoy and lead actors Anil Dhawan and Radha Saluja were all graduates of the Film Institute of India, Pune.
