- This film was a sequel to the film "Don" (2006). Both the films were directed by Farhan Akhtar, had Shankar - Ehsaan - Loy's music and Javed Akhtar's lyrics, and featured actors Shah Rukh Khan, Priyanka Chopra, Boman Irani, and Om Puri. The film "Don" (2006) was a remake of the Hindi film of the same name released in 1978.[1][2]
- Nariman Films and the family of producer Nariman Irani filed a case against Ritesh Sidhwani, Farhan Akhtar, and Shah Rukh Khan claiming copyright infringement. Nariman Films claimed that they had entered into an agreement with Excel Films permitting the remake of their film "Don" (1977) and that there was no agreement in place for this sequel. According to Nariman Films, the sequel had infringed on their copyright by using their film's characters and theme music. They sought damages of Rs. 200 crores and asked for a stay on its release. The Bombay High Court did not stay the film's release and it went ahead as scheduled. Nariman Films then filed a police complaint against the makers of this film. In 2013, a magistrate's court ordered an enquiry into their allegations of criminal breach of trust and misappropriation of property.[3][4]
