Trivia

    Album

  • This was Ramesh Talwar's directorial debut. Producer Yash Chopra gave his long-time assistant a break with this film. It was the first Yash Raj Films production that Yash Chopra did not direct himself. Talwar had initially planned to make a film starring Amitabh Bachchan and Shashi Kapoor, but when his friend Raju Saigal narrated to him a story he had written, Talwar liked it so much that he decided to make this film instead. He related the story to Rishi Kapoor in Kashmir while shooting for "Kabhi Kabhie" (1976) and got him on board for the film.[1][2]
  • This film was remade by Rahul Rawail as "Dil Ne Phir Yaad Kiya" (2001).[3]
  • Shashi Kapoor was hesitant to accept this film but eventually agreed to appear in a cameo role. However, he requested that his involvement in the film be kept a secret. Consequently, he was not credited in the film's promotional materials or even in its opening credits.[4]
  • Ramesh Talwar had Sharmila Tagore in mind for the character of the advertising executive in this film. Raakhee, who had become Talwar's friend playing cards on the sets of "Daag" (1973), liked the film's story and talked him into picking her for the role instead. She had made a splash with the role of a demure and conservative woman in "Tapasya" (1975) recently, and distributors were not convinced about her casting in the role of a modern woman. Talwar went ahead with the casting nevertheless, and Raakhee played the role with aplomb. The film did well in the metros but not so much in the smaller towns. Conservative audiences found it hard to accept Raakhee's character of a woman who smoked and drank. Some distributors even requested director Ramesh Talwar to remove some of her scenes from the film, but he declined.[5][6][7][8]
  • According to Ramesh Talwar, Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh had many lovers' tiffs during the making of this film. He had to threaten them with cancelling the shoot at times to get them to co-operate![9]
  • Filmmaker Yash Chopra's wife Pamela Chopra debuted as a playback singer in this film.
