The film credited P.G. Wodehouse's book "A Damsel In Distress" (1919) as its inspiration.
This was the directorial debut of Shelly Chopra Dhar, the sister of producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra. Her son Rohun Chopra Dhar and husband Subhash K. Dhar made cameo appearances in the film. This was also the debut Hindi film of the South Indian actress Regina Cassandra.

This was a rare Hindi film that depicted lesbianism. It was released a few months after the Supreme Court decriminalised Section 377. The court had ruled on September 6, 2018 that sexual orientation was natural and consensual adult gay sex was not a crime.[1]
Song
Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga - This was a recreated version of a song from the film "1942 - A Love Story" (1994), another Vidhu Vinod Chopra production. The title of the song also gave the film its title. The original song was composed by R.D. Burman, written by Javed Akhtar, and sung by Kumar Sanu. While the original song was filmed on Anil Kapoor, the recreated version was filmed on his daughter Sonam Kapoor.[2]
Gud Naal Ishq Mitha - The song was based on a Punjabi folk song popularised by the UK-based artist Malkit Singh in the 1990s. The song's antecedents are unclear. According to Malkit Singh, he had composed the song in 1981 when he was in college. The song took off when Bally Sagoo collaborated with Malkit Singh to produce a remixed version in 1991. A version of the same song was also recorded for the Hindi film "I Love New York (I Love NY)" (2013).[3][4][5]
