This was director Manmohan Desai's last film. It ended a career that started more than thirty years ago with the film "Janam Janam Ke Phere" (1957). Desai had announced his retirement even before the film's release. The film marked the end of Desai's association with Amitabh Bachchan. Every film Desai directed after "Amar Akbar Anthony" (1977) featured Amitabh in a lead role.[1][2]
This film was dedicated to Raj Kapoor who had passed away a few months before its release. Raj Kapoor happened to be the hero of Manmohan Desai's first hit film "Chhalia" (1960).[3]
