Trivia

    Album

  • This film was inspired by the real-life events of the Bhagalpur Blindings in which the police blinded 33 prisoners at the Bhagalpur Central Jail in the period between 1979 and 1980.[1]
  • This film was a hit when it came out and gained cult status over the years. One of the dialogues in the film - "Aankh dikhaata hai maadarjaat?!" - went on to become the subject of internet memes.
  • Prakash Jha followed up the film with a spin-off titled "Jai Gangaajal" (2016). However, the film's plots were unconnected.[2]

    Song

  • Alhad Mast Jawani Bemisaal - This song is probably the best-known film appearance of Sanjay Dutt's wife, Manyata Dutt. Born Dilnawaz Shaikh, she was credited as Manyata Bhatt in this film. It was reported that Sanjay Dutt had wanted this song removed from the film.[3]
