Trivia

    Album

  • This 1959 film was the only Hindi film in which Ustad Bismillah Khan played the shehnai. The only other time he played for a film was for Dr. Rajkumar's Kannada movie, "Sanaadi Appanna" (1977).
  • Director Vijay Bhatt had originally cast Asha Parekh in this film. However, he fired her after just two days of shooting since he didn't consider her star material, and replaced her with Ameeta. I.S. Johar, who had shot with Asha for this film, had offered her "Bewaqoof" (1960). When she was removed from this film, he replaced her with Mala Sinha in "Bewaqoof" (1960).[1][2][MR14]
  • While Bismillah Khan played the shehnai solos in the film, Ramlal Choudhary played the shehnai in the songs and in the background score. In an episode of the radio program Aap Ki Pasand on Vividh Bharti, Ramlal said that director Vijay Bhatt had promised him that he would get his own title card in the opening credits. He was disappointed when he learnt that Bhatt had not fulfilled his promise. Ramlal was credited along with many others on the title card for Assistants. A miffed Ramlal refused to watch the film for many years.[3]
  • According to film journalist Raju Bharatan, when Bismillah Khan did not play well during a recording session, the tactful Vasant Desai re-scheduled the recording to the next day. This gave the Ustad enough time to rehearse and he did a stellar job on the shehnai the next day.[MR4]

    Song

  • Maine Peena Seekh Liya - In the film, this song was preceded by a couple of lines sung by Lata Mangeshkar. However, these lines were not part of the song and were not included in the music release.
