Trivia

    Album

  • This was the first film in which Madhuri Dixit and Juhi Chawla, who had been arch-rivals in the 1990s, were cast together. While Madhuri was the film's protagonist, Juhi played what was probably her first negative role. It was reported that Vidya Balan, Rani Mukerji, and Tabu had been approached before Juhi but producer Anubhav Sinha refuted the rumour.[1][2]
  • Women's rights activist Sampat Pal filed a petition seeking the stay of the film's release which was scheduled on February 7, 2014. Pal claimed that the film was defamatory and infringed on her trademark Gulabi Gang which was an NGO run by her. On February 5, a single-judge bench of the Delhi High court granted the stay. However, a larger bench of the court overturned the stay and allowed the film's release on March 7 with necessary disclaimers. Along with the usual disclaimers, the film added the following disclaimer specific to the case - "This film is not based on the life or work of Ms. Sampat Pal, wife of Munnilal Pal of District Banda, Uttar Pradesh or any organization that is run by her.". Pal filed a new plea asking the film to be banned as its screening amounted to "continuous defamation". Based on the producers' statement that the film had flopped due to the uncertainty over its release, the court rejected the new plea as well.[3][4][5]
  • This was writer Soumik Sen's directorial debut. He also composed songs for the film and sang and wrote the lyrics for one of them.
  • Anil Kapoor lent his voice for the narration in the film's opening.

    Song

  • Rangi Saari Gulaabi - Madhuri Dixit's mother Snehalatha Dixit debuted as a playback singer in this song. She was accompanied by Madhuri in it.
  • Mauj Ki Malharein - This was the debut Hindi film song of the YouTube star Superwoman aka Lilly Singh. She performed rap vocals in the song and also appeared in the promotion video that was shot for it. The video also featured the song's composer Sadhu Sushil Tiwari who also sang it. The song did not appear in the film.
