This film was adapted from the hit Malayalam film "Chandralekha" (1997) starring Mohanlal. "Chandralekha" itself was inspired by the Hollywood romantic comedy "While You Were Sleeping" (1995).
The threesome of Salman Khan, Rani Mukherjee and Preity Zinta appeared together again in the film "Chori Chori Chupke Chupke" (2001). However, according to Nazim Rizvi, the producer of "Chori Chori Chupke Chupke", they had singed his film first.[1][2]
Shah Rukh Khan had not worked with Raj Kanwar after "Deewana" (1992) due to a misunderstanding that had developed between them during its making. He eventually made up with the director and appeared in a cameo in this film.[3][4]
