Trivia

    Album

  • This film directed by K. Raghavendra Rao was the remake of his own Telugu film "Ooriki Monagadu" (1981).
  • This was Sridevi's breakthrough film. Its success launched her as Hindi films' next big female superstar. She had debuted in a lead role in a Hindi film earlier in "Solva Sawan" (1978).[1]
  • This film was remade in 2013 with the same title. The 2013 film was directed by Sajid Khan and featured Ajay Devgan and Tamanna Bhatia in lead roles. Asrani worked in both versions of the film.[2]
  • Sridevi did not dub for her lines in the beginning of her Hindi film career. Her dialogues in her earlier films, including this one, were dubbed by actress Naaz, who is best remembered for her roles as a child artist, for which she was credited as Baby Naaz. Sridevi started dubbing for herself in the film "Chandni" (1989).[3][4]
  • Jeetendra had decided to work in films by South Indian producers after the failure of the film "Deedar-E-Yaar" (1982). He was the producer of "Deedar-E-Yaar" and had suffered a major financial loss when it had flopped. South Indian film units were efficient, completed films quickly, and gave his career and financial situation the much-needed predictability they needed in uncertain times. His decision to move South was validated by the success of this film. He continued to worth in the South for the 10 years.[5][6]
  • This was the first film in which Jeetendra and Sridevi worked together. As a result of its success, they were paired together in a total of 18 films in the next five years. Their last film together was "Sone Pe Suhaaga" (1988).[7]
  • After writing the dialogues of this film, Kader Khan had recorded himself reading the script and sent the audio cassettes of the recording to the film's director, K. Raghavendra Rao. The director was so impressed by his reading of the munim's lines that he asked him to play the character.[8]
  • Kader Khan had primarily worked in villainous roles before this film. He made a successful transition to comic roles with this film. He had decided to stop playing the villain in films after his son was badly beaten up in school by children who believed that Kader Khan was a bad man.[9]

    Song

  • Nainon Mein Sapna - This song was recreated by Sajid - Wajid for "Himmatwala" (2013). While the male vocals in this version were Kishore Kumar's, the recreated version featured his son, Amit Kumar.[10]
  • Taaki O Taaki - This song was recreated by Sajid - Wajid for "Himmatwala" (2013). The recreated version was sung by Mika Singh and Shreya Ghoshal.
