Trivia

    Album

  • This was the second of the eight films director Suraj Prakash did with Shashi Kapoor. Their partnership started with the film "Mehndi Lagi Mere Haath" (1962). Four of their films, including this one, featured Nanda as the heroine. All eight films except one had Kalyanji - Anandji's music - the music of "Vachan" (1974) was composed by Shankar - Jaikishan. Anand Bakshi wrote the lyrics for six of the eight films.[1][2]
  • This was actor Jatin Khanna's debut film. It was to avoid the confusion of having two actors in the industry with the same name that another Jatin Khanna had to assume the screen name of Rajesh Khanna when he debuted in "Aakhri Khat" (1966). While Rajesh Khanna went on to become a superstar, Jatin remained a minor actor.[3][4]
  • It is said that Brij Katyal's script for this film was rejected by several filmmakers, including N.N. Sippy, before director Suraj Prakash picked it up.[5]
  • This was lyricist Anand Bakshi's breakthrough film. He had debuted in "Silver King" (1957) and prior to this film, had met with limited success. The success of this film and its music established him as a top-tier lyricist.[6]

    Song

  • Pardesiyon Se Naa Ankhiya Milaana (Female) - This song was said to be inspired by a thumri by Nirmala Devi. It was originally recorded in Mubarak Begum's voice. However, this version was discarded. Director Suraj Prakash and composers Kalyanji - Anandji agreed that the song would work better in Lata Mangeshkar's voice.
  • Affoo Khuda (Humko Tum Pe Pyar Aaya) - The "Affoo Khuda" refrain in this song was vocalised by actor, writer and director Prayag Raj. Raj was a close friend of Shashi Kapoor on whom the song was filmed. He had previously performed a similar scream in the Hindi film song "Yahoo! Chaahe Koi Mujhe Junglee Kahe" ("Junglee", 1961).[7]
  • Affoo Khuda (Humko Tum Pe Pyar Aaya) - This song was used prominently in a 2-minute sequence in the Hindi film "Zero" (2018) with Shah Rukh Khan's character dancing to it.[8]
  • Yeh Sama Sama Hai Ye Pyar Ka - This song was inspired by "Besame Mucho", a song written by the Mexican musician Consuelo Velasquez in 1940. Consuelo's composition itself was inspired by the piano piece "Quejas O La Maja y El Ruisenor" written by the Spanish composer Enrique Granados in 1911.[9]
  • Yeh Sama Sama Hai Ye Pyar Ka - A portion of this song was adapted by Raamlaxman for the antara of the song "Batao Tum Kaun Ho" ("Anmol", 1993). The 1993 song was perhaps a tribute of producer Manmohan Desai to actress Nanda on whom the original song was filmed. Nanda was engaged to Manmohan Desai from 1992 till the time of his accidental death in 1994.[10][11]
  • Yahaan Main Ajnabi Hoon - This film was the inspiration for another hit film three decades later - "Raja Hindustani" (1996). The lead characters of both films had the same name, Raja, and the "Hindustani" in the latter's title seems to have come from Anand Bakshi's line "Main kaise bhool jaoon main hoon Hindustani" in this song.[12]
