Trivia

    Album

  • This was director Satyen Bose's Hindi remake of his own Bengali film "Paribartan" (1949). The film's story and dialogue were credited to Manoranjan Ghose and the Hindi translation was credited to Pandit Urmil.
  • Following its huge success, this film was plagiarised in Pakistan as "Bedari" (1956). Indian films were banned in Pakistan then, and the makers of "Bedari" (1956) made the most of the situation. They reproduced the entire script in their version of the film and plagiarised all the songs while changing the dialogue to Urdu and replacing Indian symbols and personalities with Pakistani ones. Interestingly, the child artist Ratan Kumar, who played a key role in the Hindi film and migrated to Pakistan shortly after, played the same role in "Bedari" (1956). The Pakistani film also did very well in its early days after release. However, it triggered a public outrage when people found out that the film was plagiarised. The Censor Board of Pakistan stopped the film's screening and placed a ban on it as a result of the protests against it.[1][2]

    Song

  • Sabarmati Ke Sant Tune Kar Diya Kamaal (De Di Hamen Azadi) - Syed Nazir Ali Rizvi took on the screen name Ratan Kumar for his Hindi film career. He thrived as a child artist in the first half of the 1950s, acting in films like "Sargam" (1950), "Afsana" (1951), "Baiju Bawra" (1952), "Boot Polish" (1953) and "Do Bigha Zamin" (1953). This song, filmed on him, was one of the highlights of his career. Nazir Ali migrated with his family to Pakistan in the mid-1950s. The Pakistani remake of this song, "Yun Di Hamen Azadi" ("Bedari", 1956), was also filmed on him. Ali migrated to the USA in 1979 and died there in 2016.[3][4][5][6][7][8]
  • Sabarmati Ke Sant Tune Kar Diya Kamaal (De Di Hamen Azadi) - While this song was a tribute to Mahatma Gandhi, its Pakistani version, "Yun Di Hamen Azadi" ("Bedari", 1956), was dedicated to Muhammad Ali Jinnah. The line "Sabarmati ke sant tune kar diya kamaal" in the original song was replaced with "Ae Quaid-E-Azam tera ehsaan hai ehsan" in the plagiarised version. The Pakistani film was banned shortly after its release but "Yun Di Hamen Azadi" ("Bedari", 1956) gained popularity several decades later when someone decided to air it on PTV (Pakistan Television Corporation). Sayed GB Shah Bokhari, a member of the Censor Board of Pakistan at the time, informed PTV about the song's controversial history and got it banned by the state TV. However, it continues to be popular in Pakistan as a tribute to Jinnah.[9]
  • Aao Bachcho Tumhen Dikhayen Jhanki Hindustan Ki - This song may have inspired the tune and lyrics of the Hindi film song "Aao Bhakto Katha Suno Tum Bharat Ke Insaan Ki" ("Ekadashi", 1955).[10]
  • Hum Laaye Hain Toofan Se Kashti Nikaal Ke - The lyrics of the Pakistani version of this song, used in the film "Bedari" (1956), were nearly identical to the original Hindi version. The Pakistani song was recreated for a 2012 advertisement for the Pakistani bank Al Habib.
  • Hum Laaye Hain Toofan Se Kashti Nikaal Ke - According to Kavi Pradeep, this song was composed by Ravi Shankar Sharma, who assisted music director Hemant Kumar in this film.[MR1]
