Trivia

    Album

  • This film was banned in some states following protests by some Rajput groups. The film-makers' appealed to the Supreme Court, which ordered these states to remove the ban on the film.[1]
  • Actress Saira Banu was offered the role of the mother of Hrithik Roshan's character in this film but she declined. The role then went to Poonam Sinha, actor Shatrughan Sinha's wife, who had acted in a few movies in the 1970s and used to be credited as Komal. Her last Hindi film before this was "Ghungroo" (1983).[2][3]

    Song

  • Khwaja Mere Khwaja - A.R. Rahman had composed the song just for him to listen to. When director Ashutosh Gowariker heard it, he wanted to use it in this film. Rahman gave him the song on the condition that the film would treat Khwaja Chishti with respect. The composer had planned to use another singer's voice for the song but sang it himself when the director insisted. The song's lyrics were written by Rahman's spiritual teacher Kashif whose real identity is not known. In fact, the song was initially titled Kashif after him.[4][5]
