Trivia

    Album

  • This film was inspired by the Hollywood romantic musical "West Side Story" (1961).
  • Director Mansoor Khan had considered Salman Khan for this film but was not able to work it out and signed Shah Rukh Khan instead. Mansoor Khan had also wanted Aamir Khan for the role that was eventually played by Chandrachur Singh but Aamir turned him down since he was more intrested in the playing the role that was being played by Shah Rukh.[1]
  • Mansoor Khan had initially signed A.R. Rahman for the music of this film. When he found that Rahman was very busy and unable to deliver his songs on time, Khan let him go and signed on Anu Malik instead.[MR19]

    Song

  • Haye Mera Dil Chura Ke Le Gaya - Some portions of this song were adapted from "Djobi Djoba" by the flamenco band Gipsy Kings and some portions seem to have been inspired by the song "Sealed With A Kiss" (1962) by Brian Hyland.[2][3]
  • Apun Bola Tu Meri Laila - This was the only time Shah Rukh Khan "sang" for a Hindi film song.
  • Hum To Dil Se Haare - The tune of this song was adapted from the theme track "Conquest Of Paradise" composed by Vangelis for the film "1492: Conquest Of Paradise" (1992). The same tune had been used earlier in the interlude of the song "Badan Juda Hote Hain" ("Koyla", 1997).[4][5]
