Trivia

    Album

  • The film was based on Niranjan Pal's script for the British silent film "The Faith of a Child" (1915).
  • The film was conceived with Dharmendra and Meena Kumari in the lead roles. However, they had to be replaced by Sanjeev Kumar and Nivedita aka Libi Rana since their relationship was strained at the time.[1]
  • This was lyricist Anand Bakshi's first film with S.D. Burman. He had written two songs for him earlier for a shelved project. These songs, "Dhanwaalon Ka Yeh Zamana" and "Anjaane Mein In Hothon Pe", were recorded in 1964 in Lata Mangeshkar's voice.[MR21]

    Song

  • Soch Ke Ye Gagan Jhoome - This song was inspired by Himangshu Dutta's composition for the Bengali non-film song "Chhilo Chand Megher Paare" recorded in Geeta Das's voice in 1940.
  • Sun Mere Munne Aa - The tune of this song may have been inspired by the theme of the film "Limelight" (1952), composed by Charlie Chaplin. A few other Hindi film songs were based on the same theme - "Zindagi Hai Kya Sun Meri Jaan" ("Maya", 1961), "Tum Meri Zindagi Mein" ("Bombay To Goa", 1972), "Main To Chala Pee Kar" ("Mukti", 1977), and "Yeh Raat Yeh Tanhaiyan" ("Gunaah", 1993). The tune of this song's antara, in turn, may have inspired R.D. Burman's tune for the antara of "Kaali Palak Teri Gori" ("Do Chor", 1972).[2][3][4][5][6][7]
