Trivia

    Album

  • This was writer, director Sandeep Reddy Vanga's remake of his own superhit Telugu film "Arjun Reddy" (2017). While the Telugu original was his debut film, the remake was his first Hindi film.
  • Director Sandeep Reddy Vanga had approached Ranveer Singh first for the film's lead role. When that didn't work out, he got Shahid Kapoor on board. Reddy found out later that the film's producers wanted to do the film with Arjun Kapoor. However, the film was eventually announced with Shahid in the lead role.[1][2]
  • The film was announced with Tara Sutaria as the female lead. Kiara Advani replaced her when she opted out. According to Advani, director Sandeep Reddy Vanga had screen-tested and almost finalised her before going with Tara Sutaria.[3]
  • The makers of the film tied up with PVR Cinemas to dedicate 15 theatres in various cities to the film. These theatres played only this film and carried its branding. This was said to be the first time such a marketing deal was struck.[4]
  • In the aftermath of the Pulwama attack in which a suicide bomber killed 40 CRPF personnel, Murad Khetani of Cine1 Studios announced that three of his films would not be released in Pakistan - this film, "Notebook" (2019), and "Satellite Shankar" (2019).[5][6][7]
  • The film was seen by some as glorifying misogyny and toxic masculinity and came under heavy criticism. However, it became one of the biggest hits of the year and was reported to be the first A-rated Hindi film to gross Rs. 200 crores.[8]
  • This was the first time in the history of Filmfare Awards that two films shared the Best Music Album award (previously named the Best Music Director award) - this film and "Gully Boy" (2019).[9]
  • The film saw 92-year-old Kamini Kaushal make a return to acting after a period of six years. Her last film before this was "Chennai Express" (2013).[10]
