Trivia

    Album

  • Subhash Ghai had initially planned to cast Amrish Puri as the villain in this film. He later decided that the role need a fresher face and signed up Anupam Kher instead. Ghai was sold on Kher after seeing him walk - the director apparently wanted the villain to walk like the actor. Kher then went on to essay one of the most iconic villains of Hindi films, Dr. Dang.[1]
  • Subhash Ghai came across Madhuri Dixit, who had yet to make it big, while on a recce in Kashmir for this film. He apparently offered to groom her and make her a star. In fact, Madhuri reportedly shot for this film but her scenes didn't make it to the final cut.[2][3]
  • This was Naseeruddin Shah's only film with an actor he admired a lot - Dilip Kumar. Dilip Kumar's family had given Shah a place to stay at their bungalow when he had run away from home at the age of sixteen to pursue a career in acting. During his stay at the thespian's bungalow, Shah had sought out Dilip Kumar to talk about his aspirations and the senior actor had discouraged him from joining the film industry. While working on this film, Dilip Kumar apparently had no recollection of their previous association and Shah could never bring himself to talk to him about it.[4]
  • Naseeruddin Shah hated working in this film and never worked with Subhash Ghai again. According to Shah, actors were pitted against each other during the film's making and he could not fit in this work environment.[5]

    Song

  • Maine Rab Se Tujhe Maang Liya - This song was Sukhwinder Singh's Hindi film debut as a singer.
  • Maine Rab Se Tujhe Maang Liya - The tune of the shehnai in the interlude of this song was used for the mukhda of the song "Akh Mere Yaar Ki Dukhe" ("Ek Hi Raasta", 1993).[6]
