Trivia

    Album

  • This film may have been an adaptation of the Hollywood film "The Reincarnation Of Peter Proud" (1975) which in turn was based on a novel of the same name by Max Ehrlich.
  • This film was remade as "Karzzz" (2008) by Satish Kaushik. The producers of "Karzzz" (2008), T-Series, acquired the remake rights of this film from Subhash Ghai's Mukta Arts. This film was also adapted by Farah Khan for the hit film "Om Shanti Om" (2007) starring Shah Rukh Khan. The Kannada film "Yuga Purusha" (1989), starring Ravichandran and Khushboo, was also a remake of this film.[1][2]
  • According to Subhash Ghai, Rahi Masoom Reza was very busy at the time and he ended up writing most of the film's dialogues himself.
  • Simi Garewal was not keen on doing the negative role in this film and quoted a high fee to dissuade Subhash Ghai. She eventually came on board as Ghai convinced her that it was a good role and agreed to her terms.
  • Subhash Ghai launched his production company Mukta Films, which later became Mukta Arts, with this film. He was unhappy with the producers of the other films he was directing at the time and decided to turn producer because he wanted complete creative freedom for this film. The production house was named after Subhash Ghai's wife. The producers credited in this film were his father-in-law, Akhtar Farooqui, and his sister-in-law, Jagjit Khorana.
  • Subhash Ghai had asked Laxmikant - Pyarelal to compose an R.D. Burman-like score for this film.[MR9]
  • Laxmikant - Pyarelal won the Filmfare Award for Best Music Director for four consecutive years from 1977 to 1980, including their Filmfare Award for this film. The other three films they won the Filmfare Award for during this period were "Amar Akbar Anthony" (1977), "Satyam Shivam Sundaram" (1978) and "Sargam" (1979).[3][4][5]

    Song

  • Om Shanti Om (Meri Umar Ke Naujawanon) - This was the first Hindi film song to be recorded in 4-track Stereophonic sound.
  • Om Shanti Om (Meri Umar Ke Naujawanon) - This hit song was a faithful copy of a song by the calypso musician Ras Shorty (aka Lord Shorty). The song even borrowed the original's hook line. In a radio interview conducted in 1996, Lord Shorty revealed that the source of this plagiarism was apparently Kishore Kumar. In 1979, Lord Shorty was invited to a farewell party for Kishore, who was visiting Trinidad at the time. At the party, Lord Shorty had gifted Kishore a copy of his album "Soca Explosion" that had the song which was plagiarised.[6][7]
  • Dard-E-Dil Dard-E-Jigar - Amar Haldipur played the violin solo in this song.
  • Paisa Yeh Paisa - This song featured the first of Subhash Ghai's cameo appearances in his own films. He decided to feature himself in the song when an extra did not show up for the shoot. What started as a last-minute improvisation became a recurring feature with Ghai making Hitchcockian appearances in every film of his.
  • Paisa Yeh Paisa - Gourov - Roshin recreated this song for the film "Total Dhamaal" (2019).[8]
  • Ek Haseena Thi Ek Deewana Tha (Kya Umar Thi) - Portions of this song used the theme music of the film, which itself was an adaptation of the song "We As Love" by the American artist George Benson.[9]
  • Ek Haseena Thi Ek Deewana Tha (Kya Umar Thi) - Himesh Reshammiya recorded a version of this song for the film "Karzzz" (2008). Anand Bakshi's lyrics of this song were used in the cover version with some changes by Sameer.[10]
