Trivia

    Album

  • This film was originally planned as a Hollywood film titled "Negatives". Subhash Ghai changed his mind later because he felt that he would lose control of the project if it was made outside India.[1]
  • Actor Sanjay Dutt got arrested in an illegal arms possession case during the making of this film. There were calls to ban this film but it did eventually get released and opened to full houses.
  • This was the first Subhash Ghai film for which HMV did not do the music release. Subhash Ghai sold the music rights of the film to Tips for Rs. 1 crore, while HMV had offered Rs. 40 lakhs for it.
  • This was Subhash Ghai's last film with music director Laxmikant - Pyarelal. With the exception of "Vidhaata" (1982), for which the music was composed by Kalyanji - Anandji, every film directed by Subhash Ghai between 1979 and 1993 had music by Laxmikant - Pyarelal. His first film with the composer duo was "Gautam Govinda" (1979).[2][3]

    Song

  • Choli Ke Peechhe Kya Hai - The lyrics of this song were referenced in the song "Aanchal Ke Andar Kya Hai" ("Khal-naaika", 1993).[4]
  • Choli Ke Peechhe Kya Hai - The tune of this song's mukhda may have been inspired by the Pakistani film song "Raat De Baarah Waje" ("Do Badan", 1974) composed by M. Ashraf.
  • Choli Ke Peechhe Kya Hai - This song, with lyrics that many considered to be obscene, became the centre of a huge controversy. Court cases were filed against it and politicians debated if it should be censored. Subhash Ghai organised private screenings for political parties to convince them that there was nothing objectionable about the song or the film. He won over Bal Thackeray who endorsed the film as being "patriotic" in his party newspaper Saamana. Not only did the song go on to become a big hit, it also won Alka Yagnik and Ila Arun the Filmfare Best Female Playback Singer award.
  • Choli Ke Peechhe Kya Hai - The mukhda of the Hindi film song "Choli Ke Peechhe Wali Madhuri Hai Kya" ("Mere Sapno Ki Rani", 1997) was a reference to this song filmed on Madhuri Dixit.[5]
  • O Maa Tujhe Salaam - Kavita Krishnamurthy sang the alaap in this song but was not credited for it.
  • Pyar Ki Ganga Bahe - This song in the audio release was not recorded for or used in the film. It was used in a Doordarshan campaign for national integration and featured some of the top male stars of the day along with their children including Jackie and Tiger Shroff, Anil and Sonam Kapoor, and Rishi and Ranbir Kapoor.
