Trivia

    Album

  • The audio records of this film were issued in 1976 but the film was released in 1977.
  • This was the last of the series of three films in which Gulzar directed Jeetendra. The other two films were "Parichay" (1972) and "Khushboo" (1975). This was the only film in the series which was not produced by Jeetendra's banner Tirupati Pictures. All three films had R.D. Burman's music and Gulzar's lyrics.[1][2]
  • R.D. Burman based three songs in this film on tunes composed by his father S.D. Burman.
  • This film may have been inspired by the Hollywood romantic drama "Magnificent Obsession" (1954) which was based on a 1929 novel of the same name by Lloyd C. Douglas.
  • Gulzar produced only two Hindi films in his career. Both films were co-produced with Pranlal Mehta and released in 1977 under the banner of Meghna Movies, named after Gulzar and Raakhee's daughter. This was one of the two films. The other film was "Kitaab" (1977).[3]

    Song

  • Ek Hi Khwaab Kai Baar Dekha - The lyric of this song was originally used in the film "Mera Yaar Pocketmaar" and set to music by Kamal Rajasthani. When the film was shelved, Gulzar reused the lyrics in this song.[MR9]
  • Ek Hi Khwaab Kai Baar Dekha - Bhupinder not only sang this song but also played the guitar in it.
  • Meethe Bol Bole - R.D. Burman used the tune of S.D. Burman's Bengali song "Madhu Brindaboney" in this song. This tune can also be heard in a line in the song "Yeh Duniya Kya Hai" ("Darling Darling", 1977).[4][5]
  • Ab Ke Na Sawan Barse - This song was based on the tune of S.D. Burman's Bengali non-film song "Kandibo Na Phagun Gele".[6]
  • Jaane Kya Soch Kar - Gulzar had used the lyrics of this song earlier for a non-film song sung by Sabita Chowdhury and composed by Salil Chowdhury.[7]
  • Koi Nahin Hai Kahin - This song was based on S.D. Burman's Bengali non-film song "Katha Diye Elena" (1958). In 1988, R.D. Burman recorded "Katha Diye Elena" for a Pujo album in Asha Bhosle's voice.[8][9]
