Trivia

    Album

  • This film was originally titled "Sharmila". It was based on the novel "Rebecca" (1938) by Daphne du Maurier. Alfred Hitchcock had previously adapted the novel into a psychological thriller of the same title in 1940.[MR10]
  • The male lead role in this film was first offered to Bengali film star Uttam Kumar. Had he accepted the role, this film would have been his Hindi debut. However, Uttam Kumar declined the offer and the role was played by Biswajeet. Uttam Kumar made his Hindi film debut three years later in his own production "Chhoti Si Mulaqat" (1967).[1]

    Song

  • Yeh Nayan Dare Dare - Hemant Kumar had originally composed the tune of this song for the Bengali film song "Ei Raat Tomar Amar" ("Deep Jwele Jaai", 1959). When director Asit Sen remade "Deep Jwele Jaai" (1959) in Hindi as "Khamoshi" (1969), Hemant Kumar had to compose a new tune to replace "Ei Raat Tomar Tomar Amar". The result was another iconic song, "Tum Pukar Lo Tumhara Intezar Hai" ("Khamoshi", 1969). Such was the popularity of "Ei Raat Tomar Amar" and its significance in the Bengali original, that Asit Sen insisted on Hemant Kumar using the same tune for its Hindi equivalent. However, since Hemant Kumar had already used its tune earlier for this song, he was not willing to repeat it for another Hindi film song. He came up with a clever compromise instead. While recording this song, Hemant Kumar discarded the introduction to "Ei Raat Tomar Amar". He took this introduction as-is for "Tum Pukar Lo Tumhara Intezar Hai" ("Khamoshi", 1969) but came up with a completely different tune for the rest of it.[2][3]
  • Yeh Nayan Dare Dare - Music director Partha Saradhi used the tune of this song in the Telugu film song "Manase Mayuramai" ("Nava Mohini", 1984).[4]
  • O Bekarar Dil Ho Chuka Hai Mujhko Aansuon Se Pyar - Hemant Kumar had originally composed the tune of this song for the Bengali film song "O Nadi Re" ("Neel Akasher Neeche", 1959). Hemant Kumar himself sang the Bengali original.[5]
