• This was Dilip Kumar's much-anticipated comeback film after a 5-year hiatus. His last film prior to this was "Bairaag" (1976).[1]
• This was the first film directed by Manoj Kumar for which the screenplay was not written by him. However, according to Salim - Javed, while they did write the film's screenplay, they had simply followed Manoj Kumar's brief and also allowed the producer, director to make changes to it during the film's making.
• This was the first film in which Manoj Kumar directed his idol Dilip Kumar. Born Harikishan Giri Goswami, Manoj Kumar had gotten his screen name from the character Dilip Kumar had played in the film "Shabnam" (1949). "Aadmi" (1968) was the only other film in which Manoj Kumar and Dilip Kumar had acted together.[2][3]
• Manoj Kumar had to cut his 3-hour long script narration for this film to Dilip Kumar to just two minutes since the thespian's younger brother was in the hospital at the time and he was in no mood for a detailed narration. Dilip Kumar had agreed to sign the film at the end of their short meeting.[4]
• It was reported that Laxmikant - Pyarelal, who were known for their elaborate orchestral arrangements, had 200 musicians in the orchestra for one of the songs in this film.[5]
• Kunal Goswami, the son of Manoj Kumar, debuted as a child artist in this film. He later debuted in a lead role in the film "Ghungroo" (1983).[6]
