Trivia

    Album

  • This was actor Saif Ali Khan's first film as producer.
  • The Telugu film "Teenmaar" (2011) was adapted from this film.
  • This was the first film together in 19 years of the husband-wife pair of Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh. Their last film together prior to this was "Dhan Daulat" (1980).[1]
  • The film had a spiritual successor of the same title released in 2020. Both films were written and directed by Imtiaz Ali, co-produced by Dinesh Vijan, had Pritam's music, and Irshad Kamil's lyrics. While Saif Ali Khan played a lead role in this film, his daughter Sara Ali Khan played a lead role in the successor.[2]

    Song

  • Twist - This song sampled the famous been music composed by Ravi for the film "Nagin" (1954). Portions of this song were in turn sampled for the song "Haan Main Galat" ("Love Aaj Kal", 2020).[3][4]
  • Aahun Aahun - The "Kadi Te Has Bol Ve" portion of this song was a Punjabi folk song popularized by the Pakistani artist Shaukat Ali. According to Shaukat Ali's son, Ameer Shaukat Ali, his father had composed and written this song in 1983-84. This Punjabi song was also adapted for the Hindi film song "Deewane Tere Naam Ke" ("Saudagar", 1991). The director of "Saudagar" (1991), Subhash Ghai, had apparently taken Shaukat Ali's permission to use the tune.[5][6]
  • Ajj Din Chadheya - The first line of this song was from a poem written by Shiv Kumar Batalvi. Lyricist Irshad Kamil took permission from Batalvi's wife Aruna to include the line in the song. He dedicated his Filmfare Award for the song to the Punjabi poet.[7]
