Trivia

    Album

  • Debutant director Ranjeet Tiwari's idea for this film came from a 2013 newspaper article about the inmates of the Lucknow Central Jail forming a music band. The film's writers spent two years researching for it. The film's plot was inspired by the real-life stories of jail bands and prison breaks.[1][2][3]
  • Diana Penty's character in the film was inspired by producer Nikhil Advani's wife, Suparna Gupta, the founder of an NGO which, among other things, worked with juveniles in custody. Ronit Roy's character was based on a real, Delhi-based police officer.[4]
  • The film was compared with two other films with similar themes - the Bengali film "Muktodhara" (2012), and the Hindi film "Qaidi Band" (2017) released a few weeks before it.[5]

    Song

  • Kaavaan Kaavaan (Ajj Mera Jee Karda) - This song was originally composed by Sukhwinder Singh and produced by Mychael Danna for the film "Monsoon Wedding" (2001). The recreated version included portions composed by Arjunna Harjaie and written by Kumaar. The film album featured another version produced by Tanishk Bagchi which sampled Sukhwinder Singh's vocals from the original song.[6]
