Trivia

    Album

  • This was the first film in which Gulzar and Vishal Bhardwaj worked together. Their partnership flourished over the next two-plus decades and they collaborated in many films as lyricist and composer, and writer and director.
  • This was Jimmy Shergill's debut film and the only film in which he was credited with his birth name, Jasjiet Shergill. He took on the screen name Jimmy from the name of the character he played in this film.
  • There were calls to ban this film because it allegedly treated the terrorists of Punjab in the 1980s sympathetically and denigrated the police officers fighting against them. It appears that the film was sent back to the Censor Board after release but it was re-released without any changes.[1][2]
  • This was actor Chandrachur Singh's debut film.

    Song

  • Chhod Aaye Hum Woh Galiyan - KK made his Hindi film debut as a singer with this song.
  • Chhod Aaye Hum Woh Galiyan - The whistling tune in this Vishal Bhardwaj song appears to be an adaptation of the cue "Il Campo Di Pallone" from Nicola Piovani's award winning score for the Italian film "Caro Diario" (1993).[3]
  • Tum Gaye Sab Gaya - This was the first Hindi film song to feature the voice of the Hindustani classical vocalist Sanjeev Abhyankar.
  • Chappa Chappa Charkha Chale - In an interview, Amitabh Bhattacharya cited the usage of "keval jhaag" in "Bhaag DK Bose Aandhi Aayi" ("Delhi Belly", 2011) and "baasi" and "jeevit" in "The Breakup Song" ("Ae Dil Hai Mushkil", 2016) as examples of his attempts to use words that appeared to be dropping out of popular use. Bhattacharya said that he was inspired to do this by what Gulzar had said in an interview - that he had used "chimta" and "charkha" in this song in order to preserve words that seemed to be falling out of favour.[4][5][6]
