Trivia

    Album

  • This film may have been inspired by the American thriller film "Zig Zag" (1970). It was remade in various languages - in Telugu as "Raaja" (1976), in Tamil as "Naan Vazhavaippen" (1979), in Gujarati as "Naseeb No Khel" (1982), and in Malayalam as "Ee Kaikalil" (1986). The film's premise may have inspired the Hindi film "Jimmy" (2008).[1]
  • This was the first film in which Amitabh Bachchan and Parveen Babi worked together. They performed successfully as a leading pair in many films after this.
  • The film's climactic scene involving a high-speed car ride by Amitabh Bachchan's character to fetch a doctor for the critically injured character of Pran was inspired by the film "Cold Sweat" (1970) starring Charles Bronson. In fact, this film borrowed footage from "Cold Sweat" (1970), as evidenced by the shots in which the car is driven on the right side of the road. To ensure continuity, Amitabh was shown driving the same car - Opel Commodore - as Charles Bronson in the famous chase sequence in "Cold Sweat" (1970).
  • The script of this film was the highest priced Salim - Javed script of the time. The film's producer Premji bought the script for Rs. 2 lakhs. Salim - Javed had offered the fully fleshed out script to the Sippys first. Ramesh Sippy was impressed by how detailed the script was but his father G.P. Sippy didn't think it would work for the ambitious vision he had for his next film. It was then that Salim - Javed pitched the brief story idea for "Sholay" (1975) to the Sippys and got their buy-in. Salim - Javed then completed the script of "Sholay" (1975) with inputs from Ramesh Sippy, Satish Bhatnagar and Narendra Bedi. Ironically, while "Sholay" (1975) was a much more successful than this 1974 film, its script sold for less - Rs. 1.5 lakhs.[2][3][4]
