• This film was based on the true story of Shanmugam Manjunath, an officer working for the Indian Oil Corporation. He was murdered in 2005 when he shut down two petrol stations for three months after finding out that they were selling adulterated fuel.[1]
• Debutant director Sandeep A. Varma faced many challenges while making this film. He had difficulty in financing the film since producers refused to come on board for an unconventional film with an unknown lead actor and no item songs. He ended up financing part of the film himself and mortgaged his house for additional funds. He also took help from his family and friends. The batchmates of the film's eponymous character at IIM, Lucknow also pitched in. It helped that actors like Divya Dutta and Yashpal Sharma worked in the film for a nominal fee. The film was certified in 2012, but it was in 2013, after Viacom18 came on board, that Varma felt confident about the film's prospects. The film was eventually released in May 2014.[2]
• The rock band Parikrama debuted as music director in this film. It was also the debut Hindi film of its lead actor Sasho Satiiysh Saarathy.
