Trivia

    Album

  • Actor Abhishek Bachchan had fallen out with Anurag Kashyap after the filmmaker had criticised Abhishek's performance in "Yuva" (2004) on his blog. Kashyap had written the film's dialogues. Their relationship had deteriorated further when Anurag Kashyap had alleged that Amitabh Bachchan had pressured the producers of the film "Chittagong" (2012) to delay the film since it was based on the same theme as Abhishek's "Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey" (2010). They eventually reconciled and decided to work together in this film.[1][2][3][4]
  • Anurag Kashyap was looking for producers to finance "Mukkabaaz" (2017) when Aanand L. Rai called him to direct this film. Kashyap told him that he was willing to do it but wanted to do "Mukkabaaz" (2017) first. Rai then suggested that they "do both together".[5][6]
  • The film was dedicated to writer and poet Amrita Pritam. The makers of the film did not explain the dedication but filmgoers speculated that its love triangle was inspired by the real-life story of Amrita Pritam, Sahir Ludhianvi, and Imroz. The film hinted at the inspiration with Taapsee Pannu's character reciting a famous poem written by Pritam - "Main Tenu Phir Milaangi".[7]
  • The film was launched in 2016 with Bhumi Pednekar, Ayushmann Khurrana, and Vicky Kaushal in the lead roles and Sameer Sharma as the director. It went on the floors but was put on hold when creative differences developed between Sharma and the film's producer Aanand L. Rai. Rai wanted to replace Sharma with Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari but she opted out since she was busy with "Bareilly Ki Barfi" (2017) at the time. Rai revived the project in 2018 and brought Anurag Kashyap on board along with a new cast. There were news reports of Dulquer Salmaan being cast in the film but he was replaced by Abhishek Bachchan.[8][9][10][11][12]

    Song

  • Ho Bah Gaya Hanjuan Da Daryaa (Saara Jag Chhad Ke) - Anurag Kashyap shot this song sequence when the song wasn't yet ready. He added Ammy Virk's hit Punjabi song "Qismat" (2017) to the footage and sent it to music director Amit Trivedi as a reference for the song he wanted for the film. When Trivedi heard the song, he asked Kashyap if it wouldn't be better for them to license Ammy Virk's song. Anurag Kashyap disagreed and asked him to compose a better song. Virk made his Hindi film debut as a singer in it. Incidentally, the flute in the prelude of "Qismat" and the beginning of its antara appear to have been plagiarised from A.R. Rahman's Tamil film song "Anjali Anjali" ("Duet", 1994).[13][14][15]
  • Saadi Sachchi Mohabbat Kachchi Rah Gayi - This was the only song that was conceived when Sameer Sharma was at the film's helm. The rest of the songs came about after he was replaced by Anurag Kashyap.[16]
