Trivia

    Album

  • This film was remade in Tamil as "Maaveeran" (1986) starring Rajinikanth.
  • The mirror scene in this film, involving Amitabh Bachchan and Prem Chopra, was based on a similar scene enacted by Dilip Kumar and Jeevan in the film "Kohinoor" (1960). The scene in "Kohinoor" (1960) itself was inspired by either a scene featuring Lucille Ball and Harpo Marx in the TV sitcom "I Love Lucy" (1951 - 1957) or by a similar scene featuring Harpo and Groucho Marx in the Marx Brothers comedy film "Duck Soup" (1933).[1]
  • This was actor Dan Dhanoa's debut film.
  • Anwar was supposed to sing the songs of this film. However, when he demanded a fee of Rs. 6000 per song, as opposed to the norm of Rs. 5000 per song, Manmohan Desai decided to use Shabbir Kumar instead.[2]
  • Amitabh Bachchan was diagnosed with a condition called myasthenia gravis during the making of this film. He had to be hospitalised and his treatment ended up delaying the movies he had signed up for at the time, including this one. Things appeared so bleak that the superstar was quoted as saying "I know I am quite ill. It doesn't look as if I will ever be able to face the camera again.".[3]
  • This was the first Manmohan Desai film in nine years that had music by a composer other than Laxmikant - Pyarelal. Their partnership had started with the film "Roti" (1974) and ended with "Coolie" (1983). Desai was suffering from chronic back pain in the mid-1980s and had wanted flexibility from Laxmikant - Pyarelal to accommodate his irregular work schedule. Since the duo was very busy at the time and unable to oblige, Desai went ahead with Anu Malik for his last two films as a director - this film and "Gangaa Jamunaa Saraswathi" (1988).[4][5][6]
  • A popular line delivered by Amitabh Bachchan in this film inspired the title of the film "Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota" (2019).[7]

    Song

  • Hum To Tambu Mein Bambu Lagaay Baithe - This was an adaptation of a folk song.
  • Sun Rubia Tumse Pyar Ho Gaya - After composing music for several Hindi films, Anu Malik made his debut as a singer with this song.
